FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Bianca Julia

When I spotted this week’s Fashionista sitting in the shade on campus reading and enjoying the today’s warmer weather, I was instantly reminded of spring—light and easy with a touch of flirty boho elegance. Within minutes of meeting, I was swept away from this Fashionista’s grace. I am no longer in RMIT Village, Melbourne. Instead I’m on the streets of Greenwich Village, New York, and it’s spring.

I love this time of year: The perfume of jasmine, the vibrant colour of my neighbours roses or when a rain shower catches me by surprise, and I don’t mind getting wet. What is not to love? However, mostly I enjoy unpacking clothes from the warmer months of last year. Once you’ve reinvented last year’s favourite with this year’s signature piece, there is nothing better then stepping out with a fresh spring look.

Name: Bianca Julia

Major: Psychology

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where did you get if from?

Bianca Julia: Last weekend I went to Retrostar’s warehouse sale. I brought so many amazing and unique pieces of retro clothing for very little money at all. That is where I brought these pants, and I have barely taken them off since. I think I even wore them to bed a few times. My shirt is a vintage shirt that belongs to my mum.

CF: How do you describe your style?

BJ: I mostly brought amazing vintage pieces from Retrostar’s sale, lots of flowing clothes, flares, coloured belts and bright, colourful, floral pieces from the ’70s. So I guess I have a ‘70s bohemian look. I like to be free flowing, moving and comfortable but still look feminine.

CF: Where do you like to shop?

BJ: Like most of the students I know, I shop vintage or charity sales and stores. It’s affordable and unique. I also go online to shop when it is sale time. My favourite store to check for sale pieces is Urban Outfitters. I love their styling; my only wish is that I could shop there more often. When I am home in London I also love to shop at Primark. It has great basics at student prices.

How To: The colour that we love from last spring is back. However, this year it’s all about prints: flirty shorts and structured dresses or something more sophisticated for spring carnival. If pretty is not your cup of tea, look out for some geometrical ’80s print romper suits.
